My parents are always busy
Monday :
Me “Daddy the winter is over, will you play with me outside?”
Daddy “No, I am going to plant some trees. This global warming will destroy the earth, we need to take action now”
Me “But Daddy you promised!”
Daddy “I know but this is more important, this is for saving our planet, I will not be around but this will help your generation and future generations to come”.
I watch my Daddy drive away and sigh at the state of our garden, while he is busy planting trees and saving planet our garden is in a sad state.
Wednesday
Me “Mommy, it is raining outside, I am bored, can we bake some cookies?”
Mommy “No, I am off to our social club, we are making cookies for a bake sale that will benefit other children. You stay with the nanny and there are plenty of oreo cookies in the pantry”
I watch my Mommy leave, how I wish I was the other child for whom my Mommy is baking cookies, I want fresh cookies, I want to spend time with her, I don’t want cookies from a can.
Friday
Me “Daddy I need help with my assignment, I don’t get math”
Daddy “What? You are my daughter – daughter of a great mathematician and you are having problems with fourth grade math? What will people say? I am off to teach math to inner city kids, I will be in late, you just need to focus and it will come to you”
Kids will have a great math tutor while I have to struggle with math, a subject that I should grasp easily.
Sunday : Me “Can we go to the funfair pleezee?”
Mommy and Daddy “No, don’t you listen? We told you this a week ago, we are going to a Day Camp on Art of Parenting”
Me “Don’t you remember? You promised to take me to the funfair a month ago”
Mommy “You are crossing the line young lady, who are we doing this for but you. We want to become good parents so that we raise you right”
Me “You need some help in this area for sure”
Daddy “That is it, we work hard 5 days a week, we buy stuff for you, none of your friends have so much as you do, what else do you need from us?”
Me “I just want some quality time with you two”…..
I am grounded, I am not allowed to watch TV all day long, my Nanny is busy cleaning the house, I pray to God that they learn something from the Parenting class.

Bhavna : Thanks, I think some things can be learned in classes but these things should be common sense, I see so many families performing social services at the expense of their near and dear ones.

Hi Ranjini : Thanks for the comment. I think to a certain all parents are guilty of this, I send my son upstairs too once in a while but only when I am in the middle of watching a movie and he is being noisy.
Times flies and before you know it they are busy with their own things so its better to enjoy them while we can.

Ha haa!
"Cookies for other children!" Indeed!
I am feeling good knowing that we have done a lot better than this with our son!
But this is so common, isn't it? One more thing that baffles me all the time is how parents keep banishing their kids with "go upstairs to your room". What's the harm in letting them linger around a little longer and having a little chit-chat with mom and pop.
Very good one!

Bhiku : Yes me too, I hope they learn something. Nothing wrong with helping others but it should not be to a point where people at home feel left out.

MQ : These parents probably think that by paying for this class they are doing their job as parents.
Thanks for your comment.

Navalji : Thanks, yeah these parents are not that bad but I know some parents who really don't deserve to be parents, while some people wait their lifetime for kids - I guess thats life.

KiranDet : Wonderful account from the eyes of a child, it is important to help others but that should not be at the expense of kids or wife/husband or others at home.
Hope they learn something :-)
